The Collingwood Colts have started to shape their roster for the organizations inaugural season in the Ontario Junior Hockey League. Since June 1st the Colts have now signed a total of 8 players and recently made their first trade in the teams history.
Opening day for signing players was a busy day for the Collingwood Colts. The Colts announced that they had signed six players, the first players to sign with the Colts are:
Eric Lalonde – Eric was the first player to ever sign a player agreement with the Collingwood Colts. Eric is a Collingwood born defenseman and the 74th overall pick of the Oshawa Generals in 2017.
Matteo Lalama – The St. Catharines Ontario net minder is the Barrie Colts U18 draft pick from 2018. The Barrie Colts are the Ontario Hockey League team that is also the affiliate of the Collingwood Colts. Matteo spent last season with the Niagara North Stars AAA team.
Aiden Dooley – The Orillia, Ontario rearguard played for the Orillia Terriers in the PJHL last season. Aiden is an Oshawa Generals draft pick, Dooley was selected 183rd overall in 2018 by the Generals.
Owen Ledwell – One of two returning Kingston Voyageurs from the 2018-2019 season as Owen will be a leader on the blueline as ’99 born defenseman for the Colts. Owen tallied 6 points in 44 games played last season with Kingston.
Luc Reeve – The second returning Kingston Voyageur from the 2018-2019 roster. The ’02 birth year Luc Reeve skated in his rookie season last year tallying 10 points in 48 games played with Kingston. Luc was drafted 143rd overall by the Peterborough Petes in the 2018 OHL priority selection draft.
Cameron Vassos – ’02 defenseman Cameron Vassos will play his rookie season with the Collingwood Colts. Cameron spent last season with the Vaughn Kings midget AAA in the GTHL, Vassos is a Kitchener Rangers priority selection from the draft in 2018.
Two more players were signed by the Colts within the following few days, those new Colts are;
Nathan Naves – The Collingwood Colts added the Mississauga Steelheads 1st round U18 selection to the roster. Face-off specialist Nathan Naves the 11th overall selection from the 2018 OHL U18 draft will join the Colts for his rookie season in the OJHL. Nathan tallied 22 points last season with the Mississauga Reps midget AAA squad in the GTHL.
Will Redick – Another hometown boy signs with the Collingwood Colts as ’01 Wasaga Beach native Will Redick signs in Collingwood. Will spent the majority of last season with the Sarnia Legionnaires in the GOJHL, he tallied 27 points in 29 games played with Sarnia also playing in 6 regular season games and 16 playoff games for the Markham Royals in the OJHL. Redick is a Sarnia Sting draft pick from the 2017 OHL priority selection draft.
The Collingwood Colts made a splash with some trade news the other day as they acquired another two players. This brings the Colts roster total to 10 players as of June 28th, 2019.
The Collingwood Colts announced that they have acquired defenseman Paul O’Doherty and forward Jacob Campbell from the Trenton Golden Hawks. No announcement of players returning in this deal with Trenton, so it seems the teams roster will remain at 10 players after this recent and first trade in Colts history.
